               The Unknown Terry Challis

Watford Museum-November 2010

A selection of the paintings and drawings left behind after Terry passed away last year went on display in an exhibition entitled "the unknown Terry Challis"  in the Watford Museum for the whole of November last year.

Alongside these paintings were a selection of the many cartoons he had published, for fans to re-acquaint themselves with his humour and sideways take on the world of footie and the 90 minutes of joy or despair that he had witnessed and recorded that Saturday with the rest of the Hornets fans and his close friend, the journalist, Ollie Phillips from the press box at Vicarage Road.

What visitors to this exhibition saw were a range of paintings from a prolific and naturally talented artist, with some pieces that were known and familiar to many, ranged along side new and surprising works that had not been exhibited before .Terry Challis left an extensive body of work as his legacy from a lifetime of observing and capturing the world around him on paper ,canvass and board and his love of humanity and ordinary people pursing their lives with humour and everyday  drama is reflected in this show that aimed to surprise and please his fans and visitors old and new.

Special thanks to Ollie Phillips and Grelle White for promoting the concept of this exhibition
